PHYS 101

The theoretical course offered during the fall semester under the General Physics curriculum is designated as PHYS 101. The course is conducted for four hours per week in coordination across all departments. Students are expected to review and comprehend the general information concerning the theoretical course provided in this document.
In addition to the theoretical lectures, optional two-hour recitation sessions are conducted weekly. The weekly schedule for these recitation sessions is announced at the beginning of the semester.
The PHYS 101 course primarily focuses on (classical) mechanics. The curriculum covers fundamental equations of motion; Newton’s laws; energy, momentum, and the conservation of these two physical quantities; rotational motion and angular momentum; and the laws of gravitation. The weekly schedule for the course is announced at the beginning of the semester.
For the PHYS 101 course, a common Microsoft Teams channel is established at the beginning of the semester for all enrolled students. Students are responsible for joining this channel and staying informed by following all announcements posted through it.
